I have no idea why it took me so long to figure this out, but I’ve finally figured out what it takes to have a good night’s sleep.
For years, I have had trouble sleeping, but it wasn’t due to any injuries or stress. As for sheeting, we carry incredible lines at Gracious Style, so as you can imagine, we sleep on some of the most fantastic sheets and pillowcases out there. Same for pillows, comforters, and blankets.
So what was the problem? I figured it was the mattress. Every time (usually around two years) I decided I couldn’t sleep any more, my husband and I would go in search of a new mattress. First, we bought a firm mattress with a soft pillow top. Then, we moved cross country to Los Angeles, so we decided to splurge and get a new mattress with an ultra soft pillow top. With the new features came new height, so before I knew it, I was climbing onto my bed. I could deal with the height, but the bed still didn’t feel that great. So then, I went online and found yet another mattress; this one promised more coils and more softness. It was softer, but I still felt stiff after sleeping. Then, the new memory foam mattresses came out, so of course we went and bought one. But that one just felt strange. Finally, I just gave up and purchased a standard mattress for under $1,000. It was not perfect, but at least it was affordable.
Then one day last month, I laid down to rest and was too tired to move our down comforter aside. When I woke up, I felt as if I had been sleeping on a cloud. Could it be? Yes; I had found the solution to my problems! As it turns out, the mattress we owned was perfectly fine, but somehow the top gave me too much support and because I am light, my body could not sink in properly. So by sleeping on top of the comforter I was actually sleeping on a bed of down. Of course it felt great!
This was a nice solution, but I needed our comforter back, so I called Down Right (they make many of our down pillows and comforters) and they explained that they have a great line of featherbeds. Just place the featherbed on top of your mattress, and cover the mattress and featherbed with your fitted sheet, and you’re done.
